Local Choirs

The One World Music Ambassadors & One World Children's Choir meet locally in our location in San Diego, CA and they may join us virtually from anywhere around the world. Curriculum focuses on language learning, cultural awareness, and service learning. Members develop strong vocal, musical and language skills, broaden their understanding of various cultures, and cultivate a sense of compassion and service, and prepare for international projects in which some may choose to participate as music ambassadors.

Tijuana & Ensenada, Mexico

The crisis at the U.S. border has drawn increased attention to the challenges faced by migrant children as well as the poverty, violence, and lack of resources facing many children south of the border. â€‹

One World has initiatives in Mexico to bring music and hope to children in need, as well as to connect local music ambassadors with children across the border. Working with the Rancho de los niños and Reino de los niños orphanages, the Azteca Youth Choir and Azteca Youth Orchestra, we provided music classes to children in need and have produced two large unity tours and concerts, involving nearly 400 children, We seek funding to support ongoing work in orphanages and music schools south of the border.

Manaus, Brazil

The city of Manaus, Brazil lies deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. A city of 2 million people, Manaus has a large number of children and youth living in poverty, some of the highest rates of HIV and teen pregnancy in the world, and is plagued by drug violence, partly due to its location along the river and near Columbia. It's also a critical city in terms of initiatives to preserve the rainforest. Working with the Claudio Santoro School of Arts and the Ministry of Culture, we have provided clinics to children and youth and are working on a unity project for 2022 at the Manaus Opera House. Our Artistic Director served as resident lecturer and Fulbright Scholar at Amazon State University from August-December 2019 and has researched Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Porto Alegre, Brazil

In 2012, our Artistic Director traveled to Porto Alegre, Brazil to guest lecture at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and in the community, and to guest conduct a music festival in Alegrete, Brazil. This was the start of a partnership with One World and the Porto Alegre Symphony's Youth Choir, led by Maestro Cosmas Grieneison. In 2021, youth connected virtually through our global choir during the Covid pandemic.
